Ellu Kozhukattai/Sweet Kozhukatai


Happy Vinayagar Chathurthi to all!!!

Ingredients

For Filling
2/3 cup Black sesame/ ellu
1/3 cup shredded coconut
5 cardamom
1 cup jaggery, grated

For Outer Shell
1 cup rice flour
salt to taste
1 tsp oil
1- 1 1/4 cup hot boiling water
Method

1. In a ht skillet, dry fry sesame seed and when it splutters, transfer into a cloth and scrubb well to remove the outer dark spots
2. Note: rub as much possible as you can, the black part won't go fully, but for somehow it will be clean
3. In a skillet add jaggery and very little water(less than 1/4 cup) and form a thick paagu
4. Meantime in blender, add sesame seed, coconut and cardamom and pulse into coarsely
5. Add the prepared paagu into the prepared powder and mix well
6. consistency should be loose, not too thick
7. Prepare the outer shell:
1. in a bowl add flour, oil and salt
2. add boiling water 1/4 cup at a time in begining and then add as of required in 3
batches and mix well
3. be careful in mixing since the water is very hot
4. apply oil, and roll into small balls, and into a thin chapathi kind of base
8. place filling inside the roll and fold into half
9. In a idli cooker, steam the kozhukatai for 10 mins or till its done
10. serve hot
