Pongal

Ingredients

3/4 cup Rice
1/4 cup Moong dal
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 1/2 tsp whole black pepper
1 tsp grated ginger
salt to taste
4-5 tbsp ghee
1 green chilly(optional)
10 whole cashews(broken into 2 pieces each)
1/8 tsp turmeric powder
pinch of asafoetida
1 strand curry leaf

Method

1. dry roast moong dal in a skillet till light brown
2. pressure cook dal,rice,asafoetida,turmeric powder and salt with 4 cups water for 3 whistles in medium heat
3. in a skillet, heat ghee, add cumin seeds, black pepper, ginger, cashew and green chilly(optional)
4. mix this with the cooked rice and dal and serve hot
